Assurance for Sustainability Report
Sustainability information has been voluntarily disclosed mainly in CSR reports or sustainability reports, especially by global companies expanding business overseas. According to a survey conducted by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) on the top 100 Japanese listed companies by market capital, 99 companies disclosed some form of sustainability information, and among them, 68 companies received third-party assurance.
Additionally, in 2024, the Financial Services Agency (FSA) in Japan presented a proposal to mandate the disclosure of sustainability-related information by large companies with a market capital more than 3 trillion yen from the fiscal year ending March 2027. The FSA also plans to require all companies listed on the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange to disclose sustainability-related information by the 2030s.
With the expansion of such disclosures, an increasing number of companies are obtaining third-party assurance to ensure the reliability of their sustainability reports. Receiving assurance from an independent third party enhances the accuracy and credibility of the report’s data. And then, it leads to gaining trust from stakeholders.
